Exodus 20:7 “Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain; for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.”

Reading this scripture made me think about what it is to take the name of the Lord in vain. In the scriptures and words of the Prophets, we study that taking the name of the Lord in vain is not just using His name as a slang, but also using His name and following His commandments without a purpose in heart. This seems to be a simple thing to avoid, but it is also easy to forget if we don’t constantly study the scriptures. God will not hold guiltless those that take His name in vain. This is an important principle to me because in the world we live in today, the Lord’s name is taken in vain all around and sometimes we might get caught doing the same thing. We need to watch out for our language and serve Him with real purpose in our hearts. Constantly studying His words, and going to the temple regularly can help us maintain this principle.
