Serving one another without thinking “what would I get from this?” seems difficult in today’s society. Serving with the heart purely for the benefit of others seems rare, however I do believe that this is possible and that there are a lot of good people in the world willing to serve and share their love with others.

In Genesis 24:18-19 it says And she said, Drink, my lord: and she hasted, and let down her pitcher upon her hand, and gave him drink. And when she had done giving him drink, she said, I will draw water for thy camels also, until they have done drinking.”.

Rebekah gave water to the servant of Abraham as well as to the camels that were with him. She served without hesitation. This passage is interesting to me because Rebekah was generous and served someone that she didn’t know. She also gave water to the servant’s camels by herself, which is surprising knowing that camels can survive without water for up to six months and when they get water to drink, they drink about 30 gallons of water in only 13 minutes. This is not an easy task, but Rebekah didn’t think twice, she just served them. This is a powerful principle to me, to serve others in full without hesitating or backing out because of hard work. I believe we need to be more like Rebekah and follow the promptings to serve others even if this requires us to leave our comfort zone. We never know how important our service might be to others.
